Random thoughts of a free Black mind, v. 336

King Don’s State of the Union address – Crazy! He leaves Nancy Pelosi hanging (you really don’t think he couldn’t see her, do you?), give out freebees to folks in the gallery, reunites a soldier serving in Afghanistan with his family (the wife didn’t seem to be excited). Then Pelosi tears up Don’s speech as he soaks in the Republican love. All that was missing was a Black congressman to stand up and yell, “You lie!” like former Congressman Joe Wilson did at Barack Obama’s first SOTU in 2009.

Remember? Obama responded tepidly (which made him look weak) and nothing ever happened to Wilson (who later apologized). If something similar would have happened to King Don on Tuesday night, that person would have been dragged out of the Capitol building, prosecuted, and eventually “disappeared…”

I’m out and about – If you are in the Daytona Beach area on Sunday, I’ll be speaking at the 11 a.m. service at New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 515 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. The pastor is Patrick D. Harding. The Topic: “Celebrating Our Heritage: the HBCU Experience.” I’ll be rocking maroon and white, the colors of my beloved Morehouse College. What’s your HBCU? Let everyone know, and make sure you are contributing financially to your institution…

“MLK Speaks” – Later this month, I’ll be participating with four of Daytona Beach’s finest young people in a spoken word event featuring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s five most powerful speeches. I’ll perform “The Drum Major Instinct,” MLK’s last Sunday sermon. The details: February 29, 5 p.m., at Master’s Domain COGIC, 511 Fremont Ave., Daytona Beach. Pastor Derrick Harris.

If you come to either or both of these free events, bring momma ‘nem with you…
