SPECIAL TO THE FLORIDA COURIER
The Edward Waters College (EWC) Athletics Department has released its 2015 Tiger football schedule, which includes games against Kennesaw State University, Morehouse College, Concordia College and an inner-city match-up against the Jacksonville University Dolphins.
“This is one of the tougher schedules in Edward Waters College history because of the exciting opponents we are competing against this year,” said Alvin Wyatt, head football coach.
(Wyatt began his first full season as the coach of the Tigers last year. He was Bethune-Cookman University’s football coach from 1997-2009.)
“Kennesaw State plays for the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision). Jacksonville University is also a NCAA Division I FCS school. Morehouse and Concordia are both NCAA Division II powerhouses.”
Game on ESPN3
EWC has three home games and seven away games, including the “Jacksonville Football Classic” against the Dolphins that will be played at D.B. Milne Field on Jacksonville University’s campus Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. This game will be televised on ESPN3.
For the second straight year, the Tigers open the season against the University of Faith at home Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. This year’s homecoming game will be played against Concordia College on Oct. 24 at 3 p.m.
“Despite the schedule, we can do well. We have seven defensive starters and eight offensive starters returning for the 2015 football season, including First-Team All-Conference quarterback Tyler Mahla,” said Wyatt.
The football team will return to campus Aug. 3 for the 2015 fall semester. All of the Tiger home games will be played at Stanton College Preparatory High School, 1149 W. 13th St., Jacksonville.
