Beaches remained packed despite virus threats

NOT HEEDING THE WARNINGS

DUANE C. FERNANDEZ SR./FLORIDA COURIER

Despite the threat of the coronavirus and the governor’s warnings to stay off Florida beaches, spring breakers and others still flocked to the sands last week to soak up the sun as shown above in Daytona Beach on March 20. While vehicular beach access ramps were closed there, off-beach parking remained open this week. As of the Florida Courier’s Wednesday night deadline, Gov. Ron DeSantis had not issued a statewide stay-at-home order. During a news conference in Orlando, he called the action “inappropriate.’’

  1. Now that Orange County and Osceola county are on shelter in , what’s going to keep them fro fleeing and hang here in Daytona?? A huge mistake by city leaders not discouraging beach goers and spring breakers by CLOSING the beaches!!!! We the residents come FIRST!
