R. Kelly’s ex-wife, Andrea, and their three children have joined the upcoming season of “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
“I don’t know what it’s like to be R. Kelly’s child. I only know what it’s like to be his ex-wife,” Andrea Kelly said in a short trailer released last month.
Andrea Kelly and the embattled R&B singer finalized their divorce in 2009 after more than a decade of marriage. All three of their children filmed scenes for “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta,” a WE TV representative said.
AIRING IN SUMMER
The rep said the show was not shot in Chicago and R. Kelly, who lives in Trump Tower and faces criminal sexual abuse charges here, does not appear on the series. There’s no premiere date yet for the third season, but it’s expected to air in the summer.
Andrea Kelly — a longtime dancer who was part of the “Hollywood Exes” cast for two years until the show was canceled in 2014 — returned to the spotlight in recent months via her appearances on TV.
She talked to “The View” co-hosts in October about the physical and emotional abuse she said she suffered while married to Kelly, and she appeared on the Lifetime network docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” in January to further discuss their tumultuous relationship.
R. Kelly has denied abusing women, including Andrea Kelly. He complained in a “CBS This Morning” interview last month that his ex-wife’s comments have made it difficult for him to find work and pay child support.
He was briefly jailed here last month for failing to pay more than $161,000 in overdue child support to Andrea Kelly.
Separately, R. Kelly was indicted in February on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving three underage girls and a woman over a span of a dozen years. He pleaded not guilty to those charges.
TLC’s T-Boz; and rapper Waka Flocka and his wife, Tammy Rivera, have also joined the new season of “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta.” Past seasons have featured Xscape alum Tameka “Tiny” Harris and rapper Soulja Boy.
