Sherrod fiasco is ‘Rush Hour 4’

Louis_Gantt.jpgI enjoy watching "Rush Hour" 1, 2 and 3 movies starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, but the recent "Rush Hour 4" episode starring the leaders of the NAACP and at least one celebrated Black journalist were shocking and not silly like the theatrical versions.

Leaders of the NAACP and one of my favorite Black journalists rushed to judgment recently by rubber-stamping news reports by devilish media institutions like the Fox News Network that reported wrongful information on an honorable Black woman.

Mrs. Sherrod, the Tea Party’s latest ‘big lie’

AnthonyHall.jpgIt is hardly ever a good idea to allude to Nazism to make a political point. But there are rare occasions when such allusions are entirely appropriate.

It is only by alluding to the Nazi propaganda strategy of the "Big Lie" that one can fully appreciate the perfidy inherent in Tea Party spinmeisters accusing Black politicians of racism.

NAACP confronts Tea Party, but will it challenge Obama?

GlenFord.jpgThe NAACP is a bundle of contradictions – but, by virtue of history, it is our bundle, to criticize when necessary and, when possible, to support.

For the corporate media, which virtually invented the Tea Party, the NAACP’s resolution demanding that the various Tea Party outfits disassociate themselves from racists, was the big news of the NAACP convention. Of course, if racists were actually purged from the Tea Party, it would disappear, since race is its reason-for-being as a White nationalist phenomenon.

Despite banker influence, financial reform is pretty good

BruceWatkins.jpgThe latest financial reform bill was one of the great achievements of the Obama presidency. In spite of dealing with stiff Republican opposition, two wars and a recession, the president has been able to work with a Democratic Congress and successfully overhaul both the healthcare system and the financial system.

Random thoughts of a free Black mind, v. 64

CharlesCherry.jpgKudos: Congrats to Bro. Prez on the financial reform bill passed. I know he’s saying “damn, Damn, DAMN!” that the Shirley Sherrod story overshadowed the reform bill and the unemployment benefits extension…

So what if BP is involved in Lockerbie bomber’s release?

AnthonyHall.jpgWashington is harrumphing with shock and outrage this week over reports that BP, the pariah oil giant, prevailed upon the British government to release Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in exchange for a $900 million oil deal with Libya.

Obama presidency has driven many Blacks insane

GlenFord.jpgWhen debating Black supporters of President Obama, there often comes a point where even the most fervent Obamites can find no coherent defense for the president’s pro-Wall Street and militaristic policies, when his refusal to even consider race-targeted solutions to race-based problems becomes simply indefensible.

Obama’s declining poll numbers are not his fault

BruceWatkins.jpgRecent polls are showing that 6 out of 10 Americans are losing faith in President Obama’s ability to run our nation. These numbers are also reflective of the general fact that Americans are losing faith in government. While 60 percent of Americans polled say they have little belief in President Obama, 68 percent said the same thing about Democrats, and 72 percent said the same about Republicans.

‘Hand the bailouts directly to us coloreds’

GUEST COMMENTARY

Astonishing.

In every one of the dozens of interviews that I have done regarding the anti-Tea Party resolution passed by the NAACP I have brought up the absurdity of a group that calls blacks "Colored People" hurling charges of racism.  Whats more, each interviewer has defended that phrase and expressed surprise that I would consider that phrase to be racist!

Tea Party resolution is entirely correct

GUEST COMMENTARY

In August 2000, a former president of the Dallas Branch of the NAACP, Lee Alcorn, made bigoted and anti-Semitic comments about then-vice presidential nominee Joseph Lieberman. The NAACP’s national office immediately took action, issuing a clear and unambiguous statement repudiating the comments, removing Mr. Alcorn from office, and immediately suspending his membership in the Association.
