They come from near and far for a weekend of football, friends, family. On Nov. 23, 55,730 spectators filled Camping World Stadium in Orlando for the annual Florida Blue Florida Classic, the largest HBCU sports and entertainment event in the country.
Bethune-Cookman earned another year of Florida Classic bragging rights for the Wildcats’ ninth straight win against its longtime instate rival, the Florida A&M Rattlers.
It was an interception by B-CU’s Devin James from FAMU quarterback Ryan Stanley that sealed the deal for the Wildcats. With 1:25 remaining in the game, James’ interception led B-CU to win the game 31-27.
Florida Courier photojournalists, including veteran photographer Kim Gibson of Miami captured the action on the field and off.
Here’s a glance at some of Gibson’s Florida Classic photos, including snapshots of B-CU Marching Wildcats band to FAMU’s Marching “100.’’
