Tarell Alvin McCraney won an Academy Award on Feb. 26 for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Moonlight.’’ He and the movie’s director, Barry Jenkins, co-wrote the 2016 film, which is based on McCraney’s play, “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue. He also is the incoming chair of playwright at the Yale School of Drama.

Naomie Harris didn’t win an Oscar on Feb. 26, but she deserves recognition for her first Academy Award nomination at age 40. The London-born Harris was nominated in the best supporting actress category. In “Moonlight she plays Paula, the crack-addicted mother of a boy struggling with his sexuality while growing up in the Miami housing projects.
