Chief justice looking to boost courthouse security

Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge Labarga on Monday has announced the creation of a panel to study local courthouse security.

The Trial Courthouse Security Workgroup will look at issues such as evaluating security practices at courthouses, reviewing national courthouse security procedures and developing standards for training, according to the announcement.

The panel will be chaired by Margaret Steinbeck, a judge in Southwest Florida’s 20th Judicial Circuit.

It will include chief judges from eight judicial circuits, two attorneys and a staff member from the Office of State Courts Administrator.
