FAMU band ‘president’ charged in hazing death

Des Moines Register – The so-called president of the Florida A&M University band bus on which drum major Robert Champion was fatally beaten last fall has been charged with felony hazing, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Dante Martin, 25, of Tampa, is now the 12th person charged in the November beating death of Champion, according to a 20-page document that revised hazing charges originally filed May 2.

Martin organized hazings aboard Bus C, according to Orange County sheriff’s detectives who investigated Champion’s death, the Sentinel says. Prosecutors would not confirm or discuss the charge against him.

Martin has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor in connection with a separate hazing aboard the charter bus that transported members of the Marching 100′s percussion section to performances.
